Sex for marks has been a trend in many Nigerian tertiary institutions. However, recently students have been speaking up against this immoral act from many university lecturers and professors.
In that regard, the governing council of Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU) Ile Ife. Has dismissed Prof. Richard Akindele. A professor in the accounting department
Who was allegedly involved in a sex for Mark scandal with one Miss Monica Osage, a student in the Masters of Business programme
The student released a telephone conversation she recorded where the lecturer who was identified as Akindele demanded for 5 rounds of sex to give her An A score in her result.
The evidence which included The telephone conversations, whatsapp screenshots, oral evidence to the query was tendered to the committee
Ogunbodede, the University vice chancellor said the university senate considered the committee’s finding that Akindele had an inappropriate relationship with his student.
He was initially suspended in April pending when the university’s investigative committee finalizes their investigations
The VC said Akindele had acted in a way that compromised his position as a teacher and as an examiner in that his conversation with his student were about examination scores and inducement of favour for the alteration of examination scores
Ogunbodede announced his dismissal During a press conference on Wednesday
Stating that his dismissal will serve as deterrent for others like him. As the University ensures that sexual harassment of any sorts is totally eliminated from the school
