This very sad news just got in- veteran reggae musician #Raskimono died today in Lagos, Nigeria.
Born Ekeleke Elumelu, the music icon made a great impact in the Nigerian music industry back in the ’80s with his hit song “Under Pressure”, starting out his career in a reggae music group called Jastix Reggae Ital.
He made music with fellow reggae icons- Majek Fashek, Amos McRoy Jegg and Black Rice Osagie.
Ras Kimono remains an icon, with his sensational songs that became a staple for many reggae lovers, since the ’90s. It is indeed sad to know that another great legend, who not long ago marked his 6oth birthday, has bitten the dust.
Reports came in that he died earlier today in Lagoon Hospital, Bourdillion Ikoyi, Lagos. According to Metro News, Ras Kimono was to travel to the United States last night but was said to have complained days ago of feeling slightly unwell. He was then taken to the hospital where he, unfortunately, fell into a coma, from which he later recovered. However, lightning struck the second time. This time, he died.
According to press, music veterans Tony Okoroji, Sir Shina Peters and others are meeting to make burial plans.
RIP #RasKimono. You will be greatly missed.
